“Relying on God has to begin all over again, every day, as if nothing has yet been done.” – C.S Lewis
Surrender - like the oceans waves, is not a one time occurrence, but rather an ongoing cycle.
The battle of our faith is continuous.
We’re swimming in the marvelous creation Gods given us, but find that the waves of the world catch us, we get stuck under the weight, tossing and turning in the white wash.
We know we’re under water but it’s not until we breach the surface, gasping for air do we realize that the wave has moved us, our body and heart has shifted a little, we’re confused, lost, trying to get our bearings.
The swell draws back again, pulling the water with it, letting our feet touch the sand below. For a while we stand on solid ground.
Until another set rolls through and the wave of worldly ways catches us again.
And so on it goes, in the never ending rolling of the ocean, we find our feet daily until suddenly we’re swimming back to the surface as hard as we can, only to be questioning again how we got here.
I’ve had times throughout my life where I’ve believed submersing myself in the water is the best place to be. That the ways of this world are my best option. But lately, I’ve found, that the longer my feet are planted in the sand, on His solid foundation, the easier it is to swim up each time. And the longer I stand and feel the warmth of the sun on my face, the more the light reflects and illuminates the water around me, encompassing those standing around me, forming one great light.
Just as the waves will always continue to roll, our daily choice remains – will we dwell in the depths of the waves or will we swim up – always seeking solid ground and the promise of light + love.
This is what I’ve learnt. Surrender is not a one time deal.
It’s a never ending battle, and one that requires all of our strength.
But I couldn’t imagine anything more worth our time.
We must begin again each day as if starting a new: with a choice, to seek Him or the dwell in the world’s ways.
What are you choosing today?
